Job Description

About Us

My client is seeking a multidisciplinary engineering and consulting firm committed to delivering innovative, sustainable, and high-performance building solutions. Our Portland office is expanding its Building Envelope team to meet growing demand in the Pacific Northwest. We work on a wide range of projects-from new construction to historic preservation-across commercial, institutional, and residential sectors. Our collaborative culture, technical excellence, and client-first mindset make us a leader in the building science industry.

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) to join our Building Envelope team. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career professional with a passion for building science, materials performance, and sustainable design. You will work under the supervision of licensed engineers and senior consultants to support the investigation, design, and construction administration of building enclosure systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the evaluation and design of building envelope systems, including roofing, waterproofing, cladding, fenestration, and air/vapor barriers.
  • Conduct field investigations, site visits, and condition assessments to identify performance issues such as water infiltration, air leakage, and thermal bridging.
  • Prepare technical reports, drawings, and specifications under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Support construction administration tasks, including submittal reviews, RFIs, and field observation reports.
  • Perform hygrothermal and thermal modeling using tools such as WUFI, THERM, or similar software.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated and constructible solutions.
  • Stay current with industry standards, codes, and emerging technologies related to building enclosures.
  • Participate in forensic investigations and litigation support as needed.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field with a focus on building science or structures.
  • E.I.T. certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel locally for site visits.

Preferred:

  • Internship or co-op experience in building envelope consulting, construction, or architecture.
  • Familiarity with Revit, Bluebeam, and building performance modeling tools.
  • Knowledge of ASTM, AAMA, and other relevant industry standards.
  • LEED accreditation or interest in sustainable design practices.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, and 401(k).
  • Paid time off, holidays, and flexible work arrangements.
  • Mentorship and support for PE licensure and continuing education.
  • Opportunities to work on high-profile and technically challenging projects.
  • A collaborative and inclusive workplace culture that values innovation and professional growth.
